Governing Structure

The City of La Pine, incorporated in 2006 as a political subdivision of the state of Oregon, currently has a Council-Mayor form of government consisting of a Mayor, elected to a two-year term, and four Council members, elected to four-year terms. At each biennial general election, the Mayor and two Councilors are elected. All positions are non-partisan and each Council member represents all residents within the defined city limits of La Pine. The Mayor and Council are served by an appointed City Manager who serves as the Chief Administrative Officer of the City and the supporting administrative  and operational departments.

The City Council is the political head of our municipal government structure, and operates under "Home Rule Authority", which vets in the City, the authority to do all things necessary to address mattes of local concern without legislative authorization. This authority is restricted by the jurisdictional boundaries of the City of La Pine, and the limits imposed by both the federal and state constitutions, statutory law, and administrative rules.
