Planning Commission Home

The La Pine Planning Commission is the primary "Citizens Involvement" committee for land use as provided for under Goal 1. of the Statewide Land Use Planning Program. Goal 1 calls for "the opportunity for citizens to be involved in all phases of the planning process." It requires each city and county to have a citizen involvement program that addresses:

Opportunities for widespread public involvement

Effective two-way communication with the public

The ability for the public to be involved in all phases of the planning process

Making technical information easy to understand

Feedback mechanisms for policy-makers to respond to public input, and

Adequate financial support for public involvement efforts

The Planning Commission is made up of five members, appointed by and serving at the pleasure of the City Council, that operate in a board format while exercising quasi-judicial (narrowly tailored review of land use considerations affecting a select segment of the community) and quasi-legislative (broad review for land use proposals affecting the community at large) authority through the public hearing process.

The Planning Commission also oversees and reviews La Pine’s Comprehensive Plan for land use development over the long term—up to 20 years in the future, and investigates specific issues related to livability in La Pine, such as housing needs, emergency services, agriculture, forestry, recreation, public facilities, conservation, and more.

They meet on the third Wednesday of every month.
